Introduction

The purpose of this web page is to provide detailed configuration files for the BCD396T and BCD996T Scanner Radios manufactured by Uniden. This web page is intended to be used as a companion to the ValleyScan Guide.

The files below conform to the same physical ASCII format as used by both the Uniden Advanced Scanner Director 396 (UASD) software and the Uniden Advanced Scanner Director 996 (UASD) software. The software and the documentation of the file format are both available for download at no charge. Southern California radio enthusiasts may be interested in the SoCalScan group for general frequencies and the SoCalMilCom group for Military Communication frequencies. BCD396T owners may also be interested in the BCD396T group for additional system configuration files and email discussion germane to this particular radio. Similarly, BCD996T owners may also be interested in the BCD396T group.

Enjoy, and happy monitoring.

File Usage

In general, the order of the listings follow the general pattern in the ValleyScan Guide--that is, organizationally from national-scope to municipal-scope, followed by general, regional allocations, and finally, followed by miscellaneous systems. The first two digits identify the "Quickkey" setting and also help to maintain the files in an intuitive order. The second two letters identify the organizational-level. The rest of the letters identify the name and type of the organization. Note that the UASD software limits the names of systems, groups, channels, and talkgroups to 16 alphanumeric digits.

Usage of these "System" files is straightforward. Desired files can be viewed on the screen or downloaded to one's own computer. Once downloaded, these files should be placed directly in the "System Database Folder". In a typical UASD software installation, this directory is "..\db\BCD396T\UASD_systems\" (or similar for the 996). In any case, the UASD software can use any directory--this setting is controlled in the UASD software by the "Setup | Options | Database" menu selection.
